Prosecutors indict on arrest of a group of ‘acting in revenge’ who carried out human waste terrorism

A group of people who pretended to work as counselors for a delivery app (application), stole customer information, and misused it for retaliatory acts such as human waste terrorism were detained and handed over to trial.

According to the legal community on the 21st, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office arrested and indicted three people the day before, including Mr. Jeong, the general manager, Mr. Yeo, a false employment counselor, and Mr. Lee, an accomplice, on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act and the Personal Information Protection Act. Mr. Jeong and Mr. Lee were also charged with trespassing and damaging property.

A group of people who committed several ‘retaliation’ crimes in various places, such as spraying waste on the front door of someone else’s house in exchange for money or writing graffiti containing profanity on the wall with lacquer, are being transferred to the prosecution from Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul on the 2nd. Initially, the police sent them on six charges, including violation of the Information and Communications Network Act (infringement of information and communications networks, etc.), home invasion, property damage, intimidation, organizing a criminal group, and violation of the Personal Information Protection Act.

However, the prosecution requested a supplementary investigation into the charges of organizing a criminal group, intimidation, and some other charges.

They are accused of receiving money from a client through Telegram, promising to carry out a ‘retaliatory terrorist attack’, then spreading human waste and lacquering the entrance to the apartment. It was investigated that Mr. Jeong was in charge of leading the crime. Mr. Jeong disguised Mr. Yeo as a counselor at a customer support center operated by Baedal Minjok outsourcing company and then passed on the stolen customer information to member C. Mr. C actually went to the address and committed the crime, including throwing dirt and graffiti.

During the investigation of Mr. C, the police discovered circumstances where customer information was used to confirm the address of the person responsible for the crime and searched and seized the Baedal Minjok office several times. Afterwards, Mr. Jeong, Mr. Yeo, and his accomplice Mr. Lee were arrested.
