JAKARTA – Brawls between residents broke out in the Petamburan area, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. It is believed that this incident resulted from the shooting of firecrackers which resulted in two residents’ carts being burnt down.
Tanah Abang Metro Police Chief, AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo, said that the brawl incident involved two groups of residents from different neighborhood associations (RW) in Petamburan Village.
“What happened last night was friction between RW 11 and RW 5, Petamburan Village,” said Dhimas to reporters, Saturday (18/4/2026).
Dhimas explained that the brawl started when firecrackers were thrown or fired at each RW area. This is what then triggers provocation resulting in mutual attacks.
“Because there were firecrackers or fireworks shooting towards each RW, this provoked friction between residents which resulted in the burning of two fruit carts,” he said.
