UN and EU Estimate that Gaza Reconstruction Will Cost IDR 1.2 Quadrillion

Gaza reconstruction is estimated to require more than USD 1.2 quadrillion.

JAKARTA – The European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) on Monday (20/4/2026) estimated that more than USD 71 billion (around Rp. 1,218 quadrillion) will be needed over the next decade for recovery and reconstruction in war-torn Gaza.

In their latest Gaza Interim Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA), the UN and the European Union stated that more than two years of war in the Palestinian territory “telah menyebabkan hilangnya nyawa yang belum pernah terjadi sebelumnya dan krisis kemanusiaan yang dahsyat”.

“Kebutuhan pemulihan dan rekonstruksi diperkirakan mencapai sekitar USD71,4 miliar,” said the assessment, prepared in coordination with the World Bank, as reported TRT.

The final assessment determined that USD 26.3 billion (around Rp. 450,782 trillion) would be needed in the first 18 months to restore basic services, rebuild critical infrastructure and support economic recovery.

According to RDNA, around 371,888 housing units have been destroyed or damaged, more than 50 percent of hospitals in the region are not functioning, and almost all schools have been destroyed or heavily damaged.
