JAKARTA – Social media is being shocked by the actions of Malaysian tourists hunting for snacks viral from Indonesia, Chikuro. This snack made from chicken which is shaped lengthwise and filled with various creams is so popular that it has attracted the attention of residents of the neighboring country.
Based on monitoring by iNews Media Group, Malaysian tourists are busy buying up snacks sold in a number of malls in Jakarta. They buy in large quantities, even hundreds of packs, to resell in Malaysia.
From a number of uploads on TikTok, tourists can be seen buying Chikuro while visiting a shopping center in Jakarta. It is known that large orders are intended for entrustment services (jastip).
In the midst of the virality of this snack, netizens also highlighted the alleged emergence of imitation products of this culinary delight in Malaysia. Several parties are said to be making KW versions that resemble original products from Indonesia.
The products look very similar, from the elongated shape to the onion cream and cheese filling inside. In fact, a number of sellers are suspected of including the same brand name as the original product.
