JAKARTA – The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) is predicted to move in moderate risk-off conditions this week. Technically, the JCI is currently in a medium-term downtrend phase. The index is at risk of testing the support area at levels 6,918 to 6,696.

Equity Analyst at PT Indo Premier Sekuritas (IPOT), David Kurniawan, said external pressure was the dominant factor, mainly triggered by the escalation of geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz region which caused world oil prices to remain high.

“Kondisi Selat Hormuz secara fundamental memberikan tekanan besar berupa kenaikan biaya produksi bagi negara-negara net importir energi, yang pada gilirannya dapat memicu risiko inflasi serta menggerus daya beli masyarakat secara luas,” said David in his research, Monday (4/5/2026).

In the midst of market uncertainty, several sectors are predicted to be affected in various ways. The consumption and transportation sectors face significant downside risks as surging energy prices increase operational costs. Meanwhile, nickel and CPO commodities are expected to remain strong thanks to limited global supply and domestic policy support.

Therefore, investors are advised to be defensive and switch to commodity-based issuers that have stronger fundamentals.
