The Gochang Green Barley Field Festival, a representative spring festival in Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do, ended successfully, attracting over 530,000 tourists.
Gochang-gun announced on the 11th that the number of visitors to the ’23rd Gochang Green Barley Field Festival’ held in the area of the academy tourism farm for 23 days from the 18th of last month to the 10th of this month was 534,000. This figure is more than 30,000 more than the 510,000 visitors to the festival last year.
In particular, during the Golden Week holiday period from May 1st to 5th, large numbers of family visitors flocked to the festival, adding to the festival excitement. After watching the festival, tourists moved to nearby tourist destinations such as Gusipo Beach, Dongho Beach, Seonunsan Provincial Park, and Gochang-eupseong Fortress, helping to revitalize local tourism.
This year’s festival was held under the theme ‘Spring Memories, Remains on the Road’. Against the background of a vast green barley field of 63 ha, which is the size of 89 soccer fields, various programs such as walking along the path between the barley fields, emotional photo zone, tractor Ferris wheel, and busking performances were operated to attract tourists.
The ‘full parking fee refund system’ introduced for the first time this year also received a positive response. The parking fee paid by tourists is refunded with Gochang Love gift certificates, which is evaluated to have created a virtuous cycle in the local economy by leading to consumption of food at the festival and local commercial districts.
Gochang-gun also responded to traffic congestion and safety issues by expanding parking spaces during the festival, operating additional shuttle buses, operating one-way traffic in major sections, and deploying more guides. In addition, convenience facilities such as restrooms were expanded to improve visitor convenience.
Kim Young-sik, acting deputy governor of Gochang County, said, “We are grateful to the tourists and residents who visited the festival,” and added, “We will continue to develop it into Korea’s representative landscape festival that harmonizes nature, culture, and the local economy.”
