PETA The power of Indonesian football has continued to undergo transformation since the United and Galatama amateur competitions were merged into one professional forum called the Indonesian League in 1994. Since the unification era, a number of traditional clubs and modern teams have fought each other to establish themselves as the supreme authority of national football.
Until the 2025-2026 competition season is currently running towards its final week, history records that there are only a few clubs that have been able to perform consistently and collect more than one championship trophy in the modern era. The dominance of these big teams is proof of mental strength and healthy club management amidst the dynamics and turbulence of domestic competitions which often change format.
The following is a list of the most successful top clubs in the highest caste of the Indonesian League since the professional era began in 1994:
1. Persib Bandung (4 Titles)
Persib Bandung currently has the status of king of modern competitions after successfully securing four championship trophies, respectively in the 1994-1995, 2014, 2023-2024 seasons, and most recently in 2024-2025. Under the tactical command of Bojan Hodak, Persib is on the verge of making new golden history in the 2025-2026 season.
Until the 33rd week, Persib was firmly at the top of the standings with 78 points, only two points behind Borneo FC in second place. Persib only needs a draw or one additional point when they meet Persijap Jepara on Saturday, 23 May 2026, to lock up their fifth title and at the same time celebrate the status of a hat trick of consecutive league champions.
2. Persipura Jayapura (4 Titles)
The team nicknamed the Black Pearls was once the scariest scourge in Indonesia by giving birth to a golden generation of local Papuan talent. Persipura secured four top caste championship titles in the 2005, 2008-2009, 2010-2011 and 2013 seasons.
Unfortunately, this glory is now fading along with the dynamics of national football. In the 2025-2026 season, Persipura will have to fight in the second caste competition (Championship). They are even certain to fail to be promoted to the Super League next season after losing 0-1 to Adhyaksa FC in the race for the final ticket, giving up the other two promotion tickets to Garudayaksa FC and PSS Sleman.
3. Persija Jakarta (2 Titles)
Right under the shadow of Persib and Persipura, there is a group of top clubs that have managed to collect two championship titles since 1994. This group is populated by a combination of traditional ex-United teams and one modern power.
