“China completes 500 satellite ‘kill chain’”
NASA contracts to supply lunar base equipment
It has been reported that the United States is in full swing deploying offensive weapons that will paralyze the functions of Chinese military satellites in a conflict situation. The competition for hegemony between the United States and China is expanding beyond the ground and into the space domain.
According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 27th, Kari Bingen, former deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence and director of the space security project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), said at an event the previous day that the U.S. authorities were discussing how to ‘expose to risk’ satellites that support Chinese strikes targeting the United States in the event of conflict in the Indo-Pacific region. Bingen explained this by saying that the Chinese military is currently operating more than 500 intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance satellites and has completed a ‘kill chain’ against the U.S. military. U.S. defense experts warned that while space territory is becoming increasingly congested, even basic secure communication channels are lacking between the U.S. and China. Bingen pointed out that even if a U.S. satellite were placed on a collision course with a Chinese satellite, “We just send an email and don’t know if we’ll get a reply, and the responsibility to take evasive maneuvers is on our side,” and added, “No matter how difficult the situation is with Russia, we maintain a line, but China is blocking all forms of dialogue and participation.”
The United States and China are continuing their competition over lunar exploration. On the 26th, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) signed a contract to manufacture equipment for the construction of a lunar base, including a lunar exploration vehicle (Blue Origin), a lunar terrain vehicle (UTL, Astrolab/Luna Outpost), and a drone (Fireflyer Aerospace). By speeding up the implementation of phase 1 of the 3 phases of the lunar base construction plan, NASA plans to send a total of 4 tons of cargo to the moon through 25 launches by 2029. The United States aims to send astronauts to the lunar surface before 2029, when President Trump’s term ends.
