It was transported by helicopter in about 3 hours.
A pregnant woman in need of emergency delivery in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province was unable to find an acceptable hospital and was transported to Busan, 200km away, but an unfortunate accident occurred in which the fetus eventually died.
According to the Chungbuk Fire Department on the 3rd, at around 11:03 p.m. on the 1st, an emergency report was received at an obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, reporting that the fetal heart rate of Ms. A (30s), who was 29 weeks pregnant, was rapidly dropping.
At the time, the obstetrics and gynecology department judged that transfer to a higher-level medical institution was essential due to the serious condition of the fetus.
Accordingly, the 119 emergency team inquired about the possibility of emergency accommodation at six university hospitals and general hospitals in the Chungcheong region, including North Chungcheong Province, South Chungcheong Province, Daejeon, and Sejong.
However, all the answers that came back were “unacceptable.”
The reason was that there were no pediatric specialists or a shortage of neonatal intensive care unit beds.
The fire department expanded its scope nationwide and began investigating hospitals.
Only in the early morning of the next day, about 3 hours and 20 minutes after receiving the report, did I receive a response from Dong-A University Hospital in Busan that it could be accommodated.
Person A was transported to Busan via fire helicopter and underwent emergency surgery, but the fetus in her stomach was already dead.
Currently, Mr. A is reported to be in a condition that is not life-threatening.
