JAKARTA – National Food Agency (It’s hot) ensure that the average price of rice is still in a reasonable condition. As revealed by the Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization of Bapanas, I Gusti Ketut Astawa, based on observations in a number of markets, rice is still being sold according to the Highest Retail Price (HET).
“Beras medium Rp 12.900, relatif rendah karena HET-nya Rp13.500. Lalu tentu juga ada beras SPHP. Jadi harga masih wajar, sehingga selaras dengan Pak Mentan yang menjelaskan tidak selalu swasembada itu dengan harga murah, tapi harga wajar,” he said after visiting Dramaga Market, Bogor, West Java, quoted on Friday (8/5/2026).
Ketut said that intensive monitoring of markets is important to continue to be carried out in line with the intensification of the Rice Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) rice program. Apart from that, Bapanas will also collect input from rice associations such as the Association of Rice Millers and Indonesian Rice Entrepreneurs (Perpadi).
“Upaya yang kita lakukan adalah pengawasan pasar. Lalu yang kedua untuk stabilisasi melakukan SPHP dan yang ketiga tentu nanti kita akan melakukan rapat koordinasi dengan teman-teman Perpadi. Kita akan meminta masukan, menggali semua permasalahan, sehingga nanti pemerintah bisa mengambil satu kebijakan yang juga bisa implementatif,” said Ketut.
The Head of Bapanas who is also the Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, the reasonableness of the price of rice at the consumer level is closely related to the price at the farmer level as well. According to him, selling prices at the consumer level should not suppress farmers’ income.
Starting from an average income of around IDR 13 million per harvest, assuming 2 harvests a year. This average income is in line with the 2023 Agricultural Census Phase II which states that the annual income of agricultural business units categorized as small-scale farmers is IDR 26.6 million or less.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that this figure is the lowest 40 percent threshold of the income of all agricultural businesses.
