An Air Busan plane attempted to land at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan, but failed to land twice due to strong winds and eventually had to return. It is reported that during this process, a ‘tail strike’ occurred, in which the tail of the aircraft touched the runway.
According to Taiwan’s EBC Broadcasting on the 18th, Air Busan Flight BX791, which departed from Gimhae International Airport in Busan on the afternoon of the 16th, attempted to land for the first time at Taoyuan Airport in northern Taiwan at 3:50 pm on the same day, encountered strong crosswinds, and attempted a ‘go-around’ (a procedure to stop landing and ascend again).
The pilot attempted a second landing, but the aircraft was also shaken severely, so he gave up the landing and chose to go around again, returning to Kaohsiung Xiaogang Airport in southern Taiwan. The passengers of the plane traveled from Kaohsiung in the south to Taipei on a charter bus prepared by Air Busan, and the plane is being inspected on site.
An Air Busan official said, “During the go-around due to strong winds during landing, the rear part of the fuselage temporarily touched the ground and was scratched, but it was confirmed that the basic structure of the aircraft was not affected. The connecting flight of the relevant flight was somewhat delayed, so we paid compensation to customers in accordance with relevant regulations.”
